Brian McDonald (1927-2018)

Brian McDonald 1952

A 17 year-old Brian walked the beach at Assateague Island in 1944 to capture his first peregrine for falconry. His love of peregrines and the beach experience led him to develop improved trapping methods and become the most successful trapper of the falconry era at Assateague. Although he captured hundreds of peregrines, Brian’s deeply-ingrained conservation ethic assured that all adults and most first year migrants were banded and released. He shared his wisdom, fellowship and elbow grease with us on the Assateague survey for many years before relocating to Texas to share his golden years with children and grandchildren. He was our friend and our hero. Thanks for the memories, Brian!
